Media Manager Help

The Media Manager is the way to store, organize, and access all the photos, songs, and videos you use here on iHigh. You can also use the Media Manager to share your media and access the media shared by others.

Uploading Images or Audio Files to Your Media Manager
(The process for uploading images to your media manager is exactly the same as uploading audio files. For more on uploading video files see the section below)

First, click on Media in the toolbar at the top of the page. This will bring up the Media Manager window. It opens on the “Photos” tab, displaying all the photos you've uploaded that are not stored in bins (if you want to upload audio select the “Audio” tab). To upload an image to the Media Manager click the button that says “Click to Upload.”

Upload

This will open a form that first asks you to choose an image to upload. Click on the button labeled “Browse.” This will open a dialog box that allows you to browse through your computer. Locate the image you want to upload. iHigh will support most any file type that your internet browser will display but we recommend using JPEG files whenever possible.

Once you've found the file you want, select it and click open. This will insert the path and filename of the file into the appropriate text box. To the right of that text box is another labeled “Add a Title.” Type into this box anything you want to use as a title for this picture. Make sure you then click on the check box before uploading the picture. This certifies that you have the rights to distribute the file you want to upload and that by doing so you are not violating any copyright protections. Once this box is checked, click the “Upload” button to continue. And just like that you've uploaded a picture! It should appear in the image tray below the upload form.

Organizing Your Media with Bins

Let's say you have just uploaded all the pictures from your recent vacation to your Media Manager and you want to display them on your iHigh site in their own photo gallery, separate from the rest of yoru photos. To do this you need to organize your photos using bins. Start by clicking on “Media” on the toolbar at the top of the page to open the Media Manager. It will immediately bring up the “Photos” tab. The bin options are shown above the image tray. If you have created any bins it will display the names of those bins here. When you click on the name of a bin the photos stored inside are displayed in the image tray.

To create a new bin click on the button labeled “Add bin.” The button will disappear and a text box will apear in its place, asking you to give the new bin a name. Type a name into the box and click on “Add!” to create the bin.

Bins

The updated list of bins should contain the name of your new bin, but don't click it just yet. WE still need to add some images to it. When you upload images they are put into a bin called “All,” any images that you have not yet filed will be in this bin. If you aren't already, view the files in the “All” bin by clicking on the corresponding link in the list of photo bins above the image tray. Find the image or images you want to file and select one by clicking on it. This brings up the detailed view for that image. One of the options available is a drop down box labeled “Add to bin...” Click here to drop down a list of available bins. Find the bin you've created for your new photo gallery and select it. Congratulations, you've added the first picture to your new bin. You'll need to complete this last step for each picture in the new gallery.

You can also organize audio files and video clips using bins. Click on the respective audio or video tabs in the Media Manager to organize those files.

“Detailed View” Image Options

Detailed View

1. Image Preview: This is the image stretched\shrunk to fit into the 240 pixels wide by 240 pixels tall preview box.

2. Title: This displays the title given to the image when it was uploaded. Click on the title to edit it.

3. Upload info: This brief line of text displays when th eimage was uploaded to iHigh and by whom it was uploaded. For your own images it will say “by you,” if it lists someone other than yourself as the uploader the image is shared from another user.

4. “make this my profile photo”: This is fairly self-explanatory. By clicking this link you select the current image to be your profile photo. The profile photo is how you are represented on the iHigh network.

5. “view full size”: Again, this is fairly self-explanatory. Clicking on this link opens the image all by itself, at full size, in a new window. The address in the address bar of your internet browser is the address of the photo.

6. “iHigh permalink”: Click here to view the address of the three versions of your image that are stored on iHigh. The first address displayed is that of the small thumbnail version that shows up in the image tray. The second is the address of the 240x240 version that is displayed here in the preview as well as the version used for your profile photo. The third is the full size original version as you uploaded it.

7. “Add to bin”: this drop-down box allows you to sort the selected image into a bin.

8. “Make it public”: Clicking on this link makes this image available to other users as a shared image. The current sharing status of the image is displayed on this line of the detailed view. By default all uploaded images are marked as “private.”

9. “delete”: Another self-explanatory option, clicking on this link will delete the image from your Media Manager and the iHigh system.

10. “Close detailed view”: Clicking here will minimize the image view back to the thumbnail.

Uploading Video Files with the VideoEgg Uploader
iHigh.com uses the VideoEgg player to view and distribute video files. Therefore, in order to upload video files to your Media Manager you have to use the VideoEgg uploader. The major difference between this and the regular upload form is that the VideoEgg uploader can access not only files on your hard drive but also video from a camcorder, webcam, or mobile device (such as a cell phone).

Sharing Your Media
Once you've uploaded image, audio, or video files to your Media Manager you can share files with other iHigh users. Find the file you want to share and click on it to bring up the “Detailed View.” If you see the text “This media is private” that means that this file has not yet been shared. Click on “Make it public” and that text should change to reflect the new shared status. It should now say “This media is public.”

Finding Shared Media
You can access shared images, audio files, or video clips by clicking on the button labeled “Find Shared Media” to the right of the bin options in your Media Manager. If you are trying to find shared pictures make sure you are on the “Photo” tab. Likewise, if you want to find shared audio files click over to the “Audio” tab. And if you want shared video click the “Find Shared Media” button on the “Video” tab.

When you click this button the bin options will disappear and be replaced by a textbox asking for a nickname. Enter the name of the user from whom you are seeking shared media and click on “Search by Nickname.” The Media Manager will then display all files of that type shared by that specific user.
