Mailbox: Turning Comments Off
I've received a lot of emails asking me how to turn off the comments feature for certain articles or article lists so I'll address them all right here.
First of all there are comments settings for both individual articles and article list elements. I'll go through the steps to disable both kinds. FOR COMMENTS ON INDIVIDUAL ARTICLES: To turn off the comments for individual article display pages you must first find the article in the Article Manager. To open the Article Manager, click on "Admin" in the toolbar at the top of the page and select "My Article Manager" from the menu that drops down. (in a few days this will change so that the article manager has a button on the main toolbar, this article will in turn change to reflect that but for now...) When the Article Manager appears, locate the article that you want to edit. Click "Edit" from the options at the right end of that article's entry in the manager window. This brings up the Writing and Publishing Center for that article. Now look to the box labeled "Permission Settings" in the Advanced Options column on the right side of the window. FOR COMMENTS ON ARTICLE LISTS: To turn off these comments (displayed below an article within an article list) you need to edit the settings for the article list element itself. Login to your site and go into Page Editor mode by clicking the "Edit Page Layout" button that should appear at the far right of the toolbar at the top of the page. This will reload the page with all the Page Editor tools attached to the elements and columns of your page. Scroll down to the article list in question and click the "Edit Settings" button at the bottom of the element. This will reload the page with a new row of tabs attached to the bottom of the element. The tabs correspond to the different sorting options. For the purposes of this article we'll assume that your article list is sorted by Section. Click the "Section" tab and the section options will expand down. Scroll down to the check box labeled "Show Comments" andmake sure it is unchecked. Then click the "Save" button to change your settings. This will confirm that your article list will not display the option to comment on the articles. Incidentally, comments are turned on for this article, so if this hasn't helped feel free to leave a comment for me with a detailed description of your problem and I'll do my best to clarify for you.
